The principal stones is a saturated, pinkish red garnet set over foil and surrounded by a halo of seed pearls and tiny, glistening old cut diamonds. It was originally a clasp (evidenced by the little slit still present along the bottom edge), but converted into a small brooch or lace pin relatively soon after it was made.
