The model who sat for this painting spoke at length about her life as an actor the fears, the anxiety, the particular excitement of a vocation that asks you to inhabit someone else entirely. You could hear that her art was her life. As I painted I found myself wondering about that threshold: what it takes to step into a character, and what remains of yourself when you do. The painting holds both. A figure
